CAIO TERRA SEMINAR REVIEW!

Holy $h17! Holy cow! Holy crap! This is the only way I can think of that describes even the slightest inkling of how blown away I was by this seminar. I was yet again, blow away by Caio Terra’s Seminar! The level of instruction, the technique, the direction, the care was second to none! No other seminar have I been to has there been an instructor who cares so much about whether or not the seminar participants fully understood the techniques or not. This seminar was more hands on than I’d ever seen at a seminar.  Again, Caio out does himself yet again!

This was a two day seminar at our academy in Chandler, AZ. Schools from all over Arizona came to take part in the seminar. Schools from Page, Yuma, Casa Grande, Tucson, and here in the Valley were in Attendance. Anticipation and expectations of this seminar were high! Much to everyone’s surprise, Caio more than exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Having been at several of Caio’s seminars, one expectation I did have was the format and his teaching style which I am a huge fan of. He’s very technical! Where any other instructor would take one move and teach it all together or maybe into 2 parts, Caio breaks down moves into 3 or 4 parts with optional moves at each segment. For example, each part he shows, there’s a fork in the road. You can continue on the current path that takes you from point A to point B. Or you can go off on this tangent which delivers you in to a whole new move. So, at the end of the day, although you are left with one position, you are also left with multiple moves from that one position. A typical trait I’ve noticed in Caio’s seminars. This format makes remembering the technique that much easier. It’s not just a jumbled up seminar of unrelated moves.

Where Caio goes and makes things even more interesting, we do a sort of show and tell. Something I’ve never seen before in a seminar. He goes and give us, the seminar participants options of what we wanted to go over. I, as well as everyone else thought that was the coolest thing ever! Ask you self this; “What seminar have you ever done where you were given control and asked what do you want to learn?” Me? Never! I’ve never seen that. That was awesome! How thoughtful! He thought of our needs and our desires first. I feel that sets a new standard in seminars. Don’t just teach what you want to teach! Teach what they want to learn! I felt this was one of the best aspects of this seminar.

Another aspect of the seminar where Caio delves even deeper into the learning and absorbing processes of the techniques is his hands on approach to what we were learning. Regrouping and taking turns showing him in a group setting what we just went over. Seeing if we actually knew what we were doing. A few time we got to perform the technique on him to truly feel the technique and truly feel whether we are doing it correctly or doing it incorrectly. I felt in doing so, it elicits our bodies and our minds to remember the move in it’s correct form or manner. This was another facet of his seminar I’ve never seen before and I feel it was a very important part of if not most important part of the seminar and the learning process in order to make the technique stick.

To those that came to the seminar, thank you for the support and don’t forget to keep drilling! To those that didn’t make it to the seminar. Tough luck. YOU MISSED OUT!!! Maybe next time. You missed one of the best if not the best BJJ seminar ever!

If you ever get an opportunity to train with Caio or do one of his seminars, DO IT! Do not hesitate! Do not skip the opportunity! Borrow the money if you have to! Do not miss it! You will miss the opportunity of a lifetime!

To Caio, thank you for coming to my academy to conduct the seminar. It was truly and honor to have you there.
